Remember seeing the news of the nationalization a few days back and combined with the newly imposed limits on mineral exports towards the US it feels like the EU will finally have to fully decide if their allegiance will lie with China (BRICS) or the US going forward.

I think the Ukraine war is going to be the thing that tips the scale unless peace and return of land is negotiated as part of EU aligning itself with BRICS. Makes me think that the US could purposefully delay peace talks to win over EU?

The future will be really interesting. With the AWS outage yesterday the reliance on US for infrastructure is once again called into question. Could a new subspace within the internet be formed as the EU tries to break away?

wouldn’t brics favor russian takeover of ukraine? i’m fairly sure most of the eu won’t accept that.

Russia (supposedly) wants Ukraine because of the ever growing presence of NATO at its doorstep. EU aligning itself with BRICS would probably come with breaking away from NATO. However, I don't think this is the real reason Russia wants Ukraine and I don't think they could be persuaded into giving it up for the sake of bringing EU in. But it would be a way that EU would choose to align itself with China, which would diffuse this particular situation

> EU aligning itself with BRICS would probably come with breaking away from NATO

Never gonna happen. Eastern Europeans have massive hate boner for Russia, because they were effectively colonized for 40 years as "Eastern Block" and Putin is trying to repeat that.

> Russia (supposedly) wants Ukraine because of the ever growing presence of NATO at its doorstep.

Main point of division between Ukraine and Russia is the fact, that Ukrainians consider themselves as standalone nation, why Russians consider Ukrainians as part of Russia. As long as Ukraine or Ukrainians exists, (or as long as Russia is jingoistic state) there will be war between Russia and Ukraine. It is a repeated narrative for last 300 years.

I doubt that aligning with China/Russia would defuse the particular situation around Ukraine. Putin has stated many times that he wants to reassert dominance over the former states of USSR.

The reason that Moscow wants Ukraine (and all other neighbors) is because Moscow has reverted back to a 19th century imperial/colonial mindset.

I would normally qualify this type of statement as "just my take," but not in this case, as it is plain as day. They state it openly, and proudly.

Meanwhile, many in the USA and Europe still twist themselves into knots trying to come up with a more rational explanation.

> wouldn’t brics favor russian takeover of ukraine?

Brics has no beef in this fight, especially if the US is no longer involved (US involvement could make Ukraine a proxy-terrain between China/US)

It happened already few years back with ARM, where executive (ceo ?) went rogue, split and stole bunch of IP.

The question now what the Netherlands gonna do about and it, and in a bigger picture the EU.

I suspect the US when they pushed the Netherlands to do this, the knew it would end up like in this situation, and defacto would make the EU "choose" a side.

This not similar at all.

A singular CEO refusing to be ousted is not the same as workers rebelling against foreign nation nationalizing your company for geopolitical reasons.

Just the terms of doing business in the Netherlands. Much more generous to allow Chinese ownership in the first place. Something China does not allow.
