Ask HN: What's the best device for reading technical books?
1 point by tyre on Jan 20, 2022 | hide | past | favorite | 1 comment
Lately I have been reading many technical books — e.g. O'Reilly — and am looking for a better e-reader experience.

Right now I read either on my MBP, which has the advantage of large screen real estate, or my iPhone, which is portable. Both have high-DPI screens so the text is crisp. I had a Kindle Paperwhite (now dead) that was much, much better for eyestrain.

So what's a good compromise between these? Ideally an e-ink tablet with high DPI for text and illustrations?

I've looked into this myself a few times and the biggest issue with using an e-ink device is that you can't download an epub version of their books. You have to use their application to "view offline" and from what I have read from others experiences it's not that great. I decided to just use an iPad when I'm using their app.
